Ingrid Michaelson To Make Her Broadway Debut

Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson will join the cast of Broadway’s “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” next month at the Imperial Theatre, according to Playbill.com.
Michaelson will step into the role of Sonya beginning July 3, starring alongside Tony nominee Denée Benton as Natasha and Okieriete “Oak” Onaodowan as Pierre. Josh Groban, who made his Broadway debut as Pierre, will play his final performance July 2.

Michaelson will perform through August 15 while Brittain Ashford, who originated the part, takes a temporary leave from the show. Ashford is scheduled to return August 16. (Michaelson will not perform August 2–6.)

The recording artist’s music is released on her own label, Cabin 24 Records, which has sold over one million albums and 10 million singles to date, including her Platinum singles, “The Way I Am,” “Girls Chase Boys,” and “Celebrate,” featuring AJR. Last month, Michaelson released “Alter Egos,” an EP featuring duets with Sara Bareilles, AJR, John Paul White, Tegan and Sara and Lucius and announced that she’d inked a deal to develop and star in a semi-autobiographical comedy for Hulu. On June 16 at the LA Film Festival, the entertainer will make her film debut in “Humor Me,” Sam Hoffman’s directorial debut.

On June 11, Michaelson tweeted her enthusiasm for the show during the musical’s performance on the Tony Awards.
