HBO has signed a deal with Facebook to stream a live Foo Fighters concert for free on the social-media service October 17, as part of the premiere of the band’s documentary, according to Variety.com.
The series, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways debuts on October 17 on HBO. Following the bow, HBO will present Foo Fighters Sonic Highways: Live From rhe Cubby Bear, a live stream of the premiere party concert from Chicago starting at midnight Eastern time.
The stream will be available to U.S. users on the HBO’s Facebook page. The band members — Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear — will take the stage at Chicago’s the Cubby Bear and play their first in-concert performance of the new single “Something From Nothing” from the band’s forthcoming album, also titled Sonic Highways, set for November 10 release.
HBO’s eight-part docuseries with the Foo Fighters, directed by Grohl, explores an American musical landmark in each one-hour episode, chronicling the history, culture and people behind each city’s unique musical identity. The premiere episode takes place in Chicago and prominently features the Cubby Bear, a small club situated across from Wrigley Field with huge personal significance to Grohl, who saw his first punk rock show at the venue.
