Creativity in general, and songwriting in particular, are mysterious things. And while the way in which ideas spring forth is one thing, another is how the creator shapes them, which can be different for different songwriters. Then, some writers like to write alone, some with a collaborator, and some in groups. Some write on a computer, some on a legal pad or in a special notebook. Some songwriters go to their office every day and write for 9:00 to 5:00, some walk in the woods, and some lie on the couch. Some start with lyrics, some with melody, some write on an acoustic guitar or at the piano; some like to write away from the instrument altogether.
