Previously in this space, we’ve explained how reggae music was a development of Jamaican ska There are actually other derivatives of ska including something called ‘Third-Wave Ska’, and one of the bands often associated with it is the Anaheim, California-based group No Doubt. Formed in the late 1980’s, the group first put out two albums with limited success, but their third, “Tragic Kingdom” (a pun on Anaheim’s Disneyland “Magic Kingdom” theme park) was a huge hit. “Just a Girl,” the first single from the album released in 1995, broke big and went on to sell double-platinum (two million copies sold in the U.S.) The record established No Doubt and its singer Gwen Stefani as a major force in 90’s punk/pop...
