“Don't tell me not to fly, I've simply got to”
“I'm gonna live and live now. Get what I want--I know how”

Fans of the musical, Funny Girl will recognize those two lyrical passages. They belong, inconsecutively, to the song “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” in which Fanny Brice—the real life performer upon whom the musical was based and who was played by Barbara Streisand in both the show’s 1964 Broadway production and the Oscar-winning 1968 film adaptation—declares, without reservation, that she will make all her dreams come true.

Most recently, these lyrics were sung on Broadway by none other than the star of Spring Awakening and Glee, Lea Michele, who, on September 3rd, wrapped her role as Brice in the first revival of Funny Girl since Streisand starred in it, in 1964.
